Endless Memories: How to Make Your Old Dog Happy

You have build years of memories with your dog and now age is catching up with him. Sad to say, but nothing last forever, even your beloved pet. Since time is dwindling away, you have to come up with some ideas of how you can make your old dog happy.

Healthy Eating for Older Dogs

As your dog gets older, it is important that you watch the type of food that you feed him. As pets age, you may need to change their diet to one that is more suitable for their aging body. Choose foods that won’t increase weight. Instead, you should choose foods that will help your dog maintain lean muscle.  Also, feed your pet high quality dog food that will digest easily.

Keeping Older Dogs Active

Not because your dog is old means that he should not be active. This is when you want your dog to remain active and happy. You can continue to build endless memories by engaging in regular engaging activities that will keep your senior dog in a happy mood. You must also consider engaging in mental stimulating activities, as this is also a crucial part of your pet staying alert.

Sharpen Your Older Dog’s Memory

Try to make your activities exciting and interesting such as hiding treats in a specific location and sending your pet to find it by sniffing. Another way to keep your aging dog’s brain sharp is to buy an interactive dog puzzle. Your dog will try to figure out how to retrieve his treat from each dispensing compartment. This dog smart toy is also great for slowing down meal times to improve digestion.

Teach Your Old Dog New Tricks

Strengthen the bond and build new memories with your old buddy. You can help burn extra calories off your pet by playing some popular games such as hide-and-seek or chasing games. Another great idea for building endless memories with the old guy, is to take him on a camping trip.

Maintaining Joint Health for Senior Dogs

Joint health for older dogs is also important. Giving your pet the right joint supplement will help to reduce inflammation, which is quite common in dogs that are older. Giving your dog the right joint supplement will help to increase mobility and keep your dog happy in his senior years.

Making Life An Adventure for Old Dogs

As you go along your adventures with your beloved pet, take the hassle out of getting in and out of your vehicle, especially if it’s a larger vehicle such as a SUV. Use a sturdy portable pet ramp that will accommodate your dog’s weight.  Your pet will thank you for the extra help and enjoy those frequent road trips.

Visiting the Vet for Aging Dogs

Keeping up with your pet’s health by bringing him to his regular vet visits. Regular check-ups will help keep your aging dog happy and in good health. Older pets can develop similar health issues as humans as they age. You should also keep an eye on your pet to notice any changes in behavior or appearance.

Live Life With Your Aging Dog to the Fullest

Overall, spend as much time as you can with your elderly dog. You will cherish these moments years to come. One of the best gifts of all is to see your aging dog happy until the end. Take lots of pictures and videos to remind you of those precious moments you both shared.

Exotic Pets: The Beauty of the Curly-Tailed Lizards

Curly-tailed Lizard at the Park
Curly-tailed Lizard at the Park

Curly-tailed lizards are becoming common pets for some people. For me, I only started to see them some about two years ago. At first, I thought they looked like a mix between frogs and lizards, but then I realized that they are lizards. I typically started seeing them in the parks. Most times they were just hanging out on the rocks, maybe taking a sun bath, but as soon as they saw me coming, they would ran really fast and hid inside the rocks.

New Curly-Tail Pet Neighbors

A year or so later, I started to see one curly-tailed lizard in my yard, but it was really small at the time. It seemed like he/she lived between some stones, since that’s where I usually see him ran when I passed. Months passed by and I see my little curly-tailed lizard neighbor growing bigger and thicker. He still lives in the same spot where I first met him.

Time went by and curly-tail expanded his family. There’s now another lizard and some baby ones. They all chase swiftly to their home in the rocks when they see me. At first, I was intimidated by these lizards that look a lot different than the typical common lizards, but now I look forward to seeing them hanging out in the sun or hunting. They don’t seem to venture far away from the front of their new home, because that’s where I always see them, at the same spot.

These curly-tailed lizards behave different than the common lizards. It’s almost like they have more thinking ability. The main difference I notice with these lizards, is that they’re always on the ground, compared to the common ones that mostly run along walls or on trees.

I’m started to wonder how did they find their way into my yard. Maybe they followed someone from the park, maybe on their car. I have no idea, or maybe someone had them as pets and let them loose and they found their way in the yard. Speaking of following someone from the park, I did have a lizard who followed me from my home on my car, to the grocery store.

The Adventures of Bro Lizard

While I was driving my car, I noticed a little lizard, not the curly-tailed ones, on my windshield. I was hoping he would jump off, especially when I passed some nice trees, but I guess he just wanted a ride out. He would not get off my windshield, so I just drove happily to my destination and back with brother lizard on my car. As long as he didn’t trouble me, I was okay with him.

Back to my curly-tailed friends. So, I watched those cute little lizards turned into responsible little guys, even starting a family, and even sticking around to raise the kids. Dad goes out during the day and hunt for insects or any other type of food, and the kids come out to play sometimes. I think the mom hunts sometimes, too.

I’m not really sure which is the mom and which is the dad. One is dark with stripes on his side and getting wider and fatter, and the other one is light brown or khaki color and a little smaller. I was so fascinated by their life-style and how they stuck around so long, that I had to do some research about them.

Investigating My Curly-Tail Pet Friends Background

I didn’t really know what type of lizards to search for, but I just typed in curly-tailed lizards, and found some interesting information about my new pet neighbors. They’re native to the Caribbean islands I think, but people started to keep them as pets. Now I know why they would keep them as pets, it’s because they are so smart and cute with their adorable curled up tails.

Well, for now, I’ll just keep looking out for my curly-tail friends when I’m outside and try to learn more about how they live their lives. It’s funny how you can learn a lot from smaller creatures if you just take the time to watch them and protect them from becoming endangered species.
